Motilal Nehru bought this house and it became, over the following decades, one of the addresses from which the freedom movement was conducted. Jawaharlal Nehru spent his childhood here. Indira Gandhi was born here.

The house was given to the nation and is kept as a museum, with rooms preserved as they were furnished: the studies, the bedrooms, the reception rooms where the Congress leadership met and argued. The effect is domestic rather than monumental, which is what makes it worth the visit.

Photographs, letters and personal effects are displayed throughout. The ground floor can be seen on a cheaper ticket; the upper floor, which holds the family rooms, requires the fuller one.

The Jawahar Planetarium stands on the same campus and runs shows through the day on a separate ticket.
