Mankameshwar stands on the Yamuna bank on Fort Road, below the walls of the Allahabad Fort. It is among the oldest Shiva temples in the city and draws steady footfall year-round.

Through Sawan, and particularly on the Mondays of that month, the queues extend well beyond the approach and the district puts a crowd plan in place. Shivratri is busier still.

Outside those periods it is calm, and the position above the river in the early morning is the reason to go.
