The Allahabad Museum was established in 1931 and holds one of the more significant collections in northern India, ranging from ancient sculpture through to twentieth-century painting.

The archaeological holdings draw on Kausambi, Bharhut and Khajuraho. There are terracottas, coins and manuscripts, and a gallery devoted to the Nehru family that complements what is shown at Anand Bhavan.

The modern art collection is stronger than visitors tend to expect, with work by Nicholas Roerich among others.

The museum sits inside Chandrashekhar Azad Park, so the two are naturally combined into a single visit.
